Revenue's renewed-liquor-licence register lists licence ref GAT004 as a Publican's Licence (ordinary) - Theatre for THE BLACK BOX THEATRE at HEADFORD ROAD, GALWAY in CO. GALWAY with GALWAY CITY COUNCIL as licensee.[1]
Galway City Council says the Black Box Theatre is one of two performance venues managed under Galway City Council, alongside the Town Hall Theatre, and describes it as a multi-purpose performance arts space for theatre, music, comedy and multi-format events.[2] Irish Independent theatre coverage in 2011 placed the world premiere of Enda Walsh's Misterman at the Black Box Theatre during Galway Arts Festival.[3] Galway Advertiser reported in 2014 that new retractable and mobile tiered seating was being installed in the Black Box Theatre ahead of a production of Marie Jones' Stones in His Pockets, with the seating intended to improve comfort and sightlines.[4]
