Revenue's renewed-liquor-licence register lists licence ref 1021605 as a Publican's Licence (ordinary) - Theatre for THE BRIERY GAP CULTURAL CENTRE at MAIN STREET, MACROOM in CO. CORK with BRIERY GAP CULTURAL CENTRE COMPANY LIMITED BY GUARANTEE as licensee.[1]
Irish Times coverage in 2004 said the Briery Gap Theatre Festival for Transition Year students began in 2000 as a small local drama festival at the Briery Gap Theatre in Macroom with 16 Cork schools, and that by 2004 demand had spread the programme to centres in Mullingar, Galway, and Listowel.[2] Southern Star reported that an 8am fire in 2016 caused serious damage to the Cork County Council-owned Briery Gap building, which housed Macroom library and a theatre-cum-cinema, and that units from Macroom, Millstreet, and Ballincollig attended.[3] The Corkman, carried by Irish Independent, reported in 2025 that the 2016 fire left the building closed for nearly a decade and that the relaunched Briery Gap was aiming to become a live-music hub.[4]
