Revenue's renewed-liquor-licence register lists licence ref CXP568 as a Publican's Licence (ordinary) - Theatre for PALACE THEATRE at MCCURTAIN STREET, CORK in CO. CORK with EVERYMAN PALACE COMPANY LIMITED BY GUARANTEE as licensee.[1]

NIAH records the Everyman Palace Theatre on MacCurtain Street as a regionally rated building of architectural, artistic, cultural and social special interest, with the previous name Cork Palace Theatre of Varieties.[2]

NIAH describes the theatre as a c.1897 stage entrance leading to a three-storey auditorium building, and says the auditorium retains Moorish-style interior features and materials.[2]

The Irish Examiner reported in 2017 that Dan Lowrey's Palace of Varieties opened on Easter Monday 1897 as a sister theatre to Dublin's Empire Palace, later the Olympia.[3]

The same Irish Examiner feature said Charlie Chaplin appeared there in 1912 with Fred Karno's comedy company, and that the Palace became a cinema in 1930 before closing as a cinema on 4 June 1988 with Trains, Planes and Automobiles.[3]

The Irish Examiner also reported that the building reopened as a theatre in 1990 after purchase by the Everyman Theatre Company.[3]
