Revenue's renewed-liquor-licence register lists licence ref CXP982 as a Publican's Licence (ordinary) - Theatre for GRANARY THEATRE at MARDYKE PARADE, CORK in CO. CORK with UNIVERSITY COLLEGE CORK as licensee.[1]
Irish Times coverage in 1999 described the Granary Theatre as a small theatre on Cork's Mardyke and said new manager Ali Robertson viewed it first and foremost as a platform for student theatre with potential as a home for smaller touring theatre groups.[2] Irish Times coverage in 2001 said the Granary was sending three shows to that year's Edinburgh Festival and described the venue as a 160-seat theatre with roots in UCC Dramatic Society.[3] The same report said the Granary was at the heart of a GBP750,000, 8,000 sq ft drama centre opened in 1995 after the old theatre closed following a fire at the Lee Maltings.[3]
